Some people think that taking a brand name drug is higher in quality than the generic form of the medicine. Some believe that it is worth the extra cost to opt for a brand name as it will treat their ailment more effectively. However, this simply is not the case.

If you want to save money in the long run, then generally it is best to choose a generic drug. Generics are the same as brand medications except they do not carry the distinction of a brand affiliation. If you shop intelligently for your medication, you can reap a huge savings on your prescription drugs. Generic medications go through a series of tests to make sure their efficacy is just as reliable as associated brands. Basically, they have the same ingredients and reap the same benefits as branded medications. They may just taste or physically look a little different.

However, some generic drugs do carry a “B” rating. This means that the drug has a slightly different effect on the body than its brand name counterpart. The “B” rating does not mean that the drug cannot do its job. It just means you should consult with your physician first before switching from a brand name medication to this kind of generic drug for your plan of treatment. If you do take a generic drug, check with your pharmacist and see if it has a “B” rating. If it does, you can consult with your doctor and ask him what this rating means as far as your overall care is concerned.

Nevertheless, if you want to see a major savings in what you pay for medications, it is best to choose a generic drug over a brand name if you can. Normally, all drugs have a generic name or scientific designation. Therefore, many generic drugs also have more than one brand name.

After a new medication is produced or created, drug companies are barred by patent laws in replicating a drug. However, upon a patent’s expiration, drug companies can produce the drug if they do not use its brand name. Therefore, they use a generic name. If your doctor prescribes a certain brand medication for you to take, probably the most prudent reply would be to ask him if he could recommend a generic drug in the brand name’s place.

If you want to save money on your prescription medications, then you can be assured that an FDA-approved generic drug is just as safe and has the same high quality as a brand medication. The main difference between the two medicines lies in the cost. Generics normally are half the cost of correspondent brands.

Prices of brand name medications rose 6 percent in 2005, almost twice as much as inflation (3.4 percent), according to a report recently released from the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP).

To a Large group of people without health insurance, buying brand name medication is unheard of. An alternative to buying “Generic” medication seems likely the only way out.

“I believe if prescription drug companies would lower their prices, they would generate a dramatic flood of sales which in term would allow for equal profits to be made. This would be a win-win situation. I think prescription drug companies competing in this “rat-race” against each other only makes due to having to hold each and every one of them responsible for the high drug cost. It’s up to them to give the people more affordable drugs.” said Bob Vilner, marketing analyst at Goldman Health.

Ordering prescriptions on the internet is fast becoming the way that people purchase their prescriptions. Prescription Medications are a huge market in today’s world raking in an incredible $800 billion plus annually. With massive amounts of orders pouring in each day, it makes it more and more possible for the prescription drug companies to lower their prices and possibly pass their savings on to the consumer. Ordering medications online can be more convenient and could save the consumer more time, and not to mention money, as well.

“There are many online pharmacies out there, one of which even offer a “free consultation” to get their prescriptions at a discounted price delivered to their front door. This method is growing more and more popular. Although this method has been found somewhat cheaper in areas, it all could change now with gas prices on the rise. The cost of shipping could climb making this option near impossible to those without health insurance.” said Vilner.

Could affordable prescription drugs be in the future? By the look of things, it’s hard to say. Possibly one day the prescription drug companies could focus more on the consumer rather than the dollar signs and make prescriptions affordable for all those in need.

I don’t think I need Vicodin and the other major pain-pills, I just need something stronger than Ibuprofen. I have taken tramadol in the past, and it worked quite well. Where can I buy it without a prescription online, in the US preferrably.
MRM- Went to a regular doc, and all he prescribed me is skelaxin, which is on the same level as Ibruprofen for me. It does nothing but make me tired.

So taking an Ultram ER 300mg would be like taking 6 tramadol 50mg throughout the day?
